Day 10 – My Freelance Journey: Reflections on Projects, Clients, Learning, and Growth
My freelance journey has been one filled with ups and downs. Some projects will leave you doubting your skill, while others will bring the very best out of you.
When I started out as a graphic designer, I was passionate about brand design. I even did a few rebrand projects for Rock FM and E Nice Skincare—not official ones, but personal challenges. Just me testing my skills against real-world design problems. (Who knows? Maybe one day the two brands will want to use the rebranded logos. Fingers crossed.)
Now, let’s talk about clients. Some clients will really make you question your life choices. Imagine spending hours working on a design, only for the client to hit you with, "It’s not giving." Bruh. 😩 But then, there are clients who are truly God-sent—like the last cover art project I worked on. The process was smooth, the feedback was encouraging, and it reminded me why I love doing this.
One thing I’ve come to realize is that every skill—no matter how simple or complex—requires constant learning, unlearning, and relearning. I always talk about graphic design, but I’ve got other skills too. And honestly, without consistent learning, any skill will fade into irrelevance. Growth only happens when there’s room (and willingness) to learn.
Reflecting on this journey so far makes me appreciate how far I’ve come—from the first design I ever created, to the first time I took a PC apart, and even the first time I held a badminton racket (and missed the shot completely 😅). Every experience, every project, every “L” and every win has contributed to my growth.
Still learning. Still growing. Still in the game.
